Im considering a 2001 Seadoo GTX-DI with a new rebuilt motor. Do I need to use the $40 a gallon Seadoo Oil. in all of my past 2 smokes I used Quicksliver oil and had no issues.

I would avoid that engine like the plague// why do you think it has a new engine and is up for sale, they are notorious for grenading the engines,, I personally avoid any DI 2 stroke engine, but if you buy it get the best oil you can find as you will need it.

For warranty work you have to use sea doo oil otherwise they will deny warranty. You need to use sea doo oil IMO on that ski. Personally as jeff said stay away from those. they have a ton of problems that they still havent fixed. they have band aid fixes but they dont last. Im assuming its a 951 correct? jsut to give you a idea my buddy blew his up and rebuilt it 3x before he just gave up on it. each time it was abotu 1400$ in parts and we did the rebuilds. It would run hot and I put dual cooling lines on it and two outlets off the head and it still ran hot. We all jsut gave up on them. get a 4 stroke if you can afford it

More myth here. Engine manufacturers cannot force you to use their oil using denial of warranty as the threat. Car makers can't do it, truck makers can't do it, motorcycle makers can't do it, and neither can marine engine makers. If a special oil is required, the manufacturer must provide it. Read your manual and the oil statement will very likely read "xxxxx oil is recommended". There is a very big difference between the words "recommended" and "required". In the marine industry for example, if TCW3 oil is required, then TCW3 certified oil from any supplier is ok to use and the engine manufacturer cannot deny warranty if you used Wal Mart's TCW3 instead of Mercury's TCW3.

As I said, if the manufacturer says you MUST use "xxxxx", whatever that "xxxxx" means is what you need to run. But if that "xxxx" means (say TCW3) the engine manufacturer has a legal problem. If XPS is simply a brand and not a "certification" and no other suppliers provide it, then it's obvious that's what you need to do. The key is the oil certification (or lack of it) that makes the difference.

Youre both right and wrong. I KNOW all abotu the magnusson moss act. But go fight sea doo about it. Im telling you dude from first hand experience you gotta fight them tooth and nail and you will loose if youre under warranty and are running a different oil than they require.and besides the sea doo oil in NOT rated TCW3. it has a totally different rating which can be found in canada but very rare in the states
its If I remember right ISO-EGD Or ISO-L-EDG+ ( i may be off by a couple of letters) so good luck finding that oil anywhere. its sold in Europe and Canada and the US sold oil from sea doo has that rating. but thats all nice and fine trying to fight sea doo for warranty work when you did not use the oil that they RECOMMENDED/REQUIRED. Good luck
