The Radiated Plume is schd. to arrive here on the West Coast some time today. The experts say there is nothing to worry about.........Potassium Iodine pills are selling like Bottles of Water, The Russians says a Glass of Red Wine will also do the trick.....

Re: The Plume

Hysteria and lack of knowledge are terrible.

The "plume" that hysterics are screeching about will expose west coasters to less radiation than a dental Xray.

Do nothing except as advised by a Health Physicist or Doctor. Shade tree (and media) wisdom is more dangerous than high doses of radioactivity.

Re: The Plume

Check all the sources of info before loading up on iodine tablets....the amount of radiation will be so small and diluted that they'll be lucky to have it register.
Either way.....I'm going to pick up a nice Shiraz just in case.;):D

Just make sure that you have your aluminum foil hat on and you will be fine.

Re: The Plume

Please don't determine your actions based on the web site link you posted. The only thing I see there is a reading of cpm. Are they talking about loose surface contamination from a know sample size? Are they waving a GM pancake probe (frisker) in the air? Are they talking about counts on an air sample of unknown volume?

It means absolutely nothing and will needlesly scare more people than provide data - which you don't understand. The state and local agencies have the training, monitoring systems, information and plans in place for this type of event. If you don't want to trust trained professionals, why in the world would you trust someone who has some rudimentary knowledge and questionable reporting practices?

But please don't go off the deep end on this.

I better stock up on some 'the little penguin shiraz wine' just in case. Then I will put on my new tinfoil hat with the new fangled USB connection that interfaces with Al Gores server.

That is the only reason it has become an issue, the Media is Making money, what most don't seem to realize, is, that the two Japanese towns that were bombed in WWII still have far more residual radiation that these plants can emit and get to the West Coast of the US..there is going to be less radiation to hit the US, than actually did in WWII when we dropped the bombs..

There is medical proof that low doses of radiation actually lowers the chance of getting cancer!

Yes, but I hypothesize that not having cancer is the leading cause of cancer. 100% of people diagnosed with cancer were cancer free before the diagnosis.

I don't think Joe Biden could have said it any better!

Fine print under big plume headlines.

would have extremely minor health consequences in the United States, even if hints of it are ultimately detectable.

Re: The Plume

Well, I picked up a bottle of Jameson yesterday in honor of St Patrick and I had forgotten how good it is. I like a little Shiraz now and then, but I think when I start to glow in the dark, Jameson will be my poison of choice.

As a lifetime rad worker, I can tell you that "glow in the dark" thing only affects certain body parts - but it is kinda neat!

Ok hold on fellas I am not trying to get everyones panties all wadded up here, I like to be informed, As informed as possible and then make my own determinations as to who I believe and what actions to take. Yes I have potassium Iodide pills, I have had a small supply of the pills for over 20 years and they get thrown out every 2 years and re stocked, better to have and not need then to need and not have philosophy, just like anything else guns, LTS foods, cars, women, etc! If you don't want to use the link I understand but some might chose to be informed like me as well, if not I understand no worries.
