I don't know about you guys, but...

Every year I wait until the last weekend before Christmas to head out to the cruelest place on earth, the dreaded mall, to slalom through the masses and pick out poorly thoughtout gifts which are certain to disappoint. For the life of me, I cannot pick out gifts well nor tolerate the thousands in my way attempting to do the same. I am so miserable doing this task that my kids refuse to help because of the shrapnel they eat while I fester at the mall. When it's over I medicate heavily. Here goes nothing....

Oh, and Merry Christmas to all!!!!! : )

One popular definition of insanity is doling the same things over and over, all the while expecting a different outcome ...

One word............ List Everyone you buy for you ask them for a list of things they would like. You combine those lists into one. Items that you are willing to buy them. You go to stores that have the items. Buy, get out and move on to the next store. Whatever you buy will be on the list and the recipient will be happy. The big thing is to get the lists early. Much quicker and better. No walking around AIMLESSLY PICKING OUT SOMETHING YOU "HOPE" THEY will like. Darn caps lock.

W/O a list, you are doomed............ :)

Merry Christmas!

Just hand Them the $$$ and credit cards (which they probably already have) and let Them go to the mall....stay home and play with your boat!....that way, everybody's happy!.....

Been making as many gifts as possible the last few years. When that fails, I bless God in Heaven above for e-commerce.

Like you I suffered from this dilemma until I found the cure. Checks are a one size fits all solution. They never get returned.

You'd think I would learn and start early and shop online and ask for suggestions....but I never do. Wait until it is too late, procrastinate some more, and then panic is more my style when it comes to gift buying. It has haunted me since I started shaving. Mission starts at 0900 tomorrow. Need lotsa rest. Goodnight!

Re: The most dreaded weekend of the year

Back when the two youngest girls when 7 and 4 I bought one a football and the other a fishing rod. The next year I bought the oldest a BB gun and the younger a box of BBs. I've been ban from buying xmas gifts for the kids ever since. Bought momma a blender and a coffee pot in subsequent years. Momma now buys her own gifts and I have wrap them.

Then of course I buy my own gifts. We will not go there........lol

Re: The most dreaded weekend of the year

Malls are impressionable places .......... Christmas 1982 while I was stationed outside NYC I decided to bring my son then age 7 Christmas shopping at the mall. We went Christmas eve entirely for the experience and I had my son select a gift for his Mom. The crowds were incredible, the store shelves were sparse and the experience was PRICELESS! :D My son who is now 38 still remembers that shopping trip.

It was not necessary for us to buy anything and I considered it part of his shopping education!!

Fun was had by "most" because many of the people did not appear happy.

Merry Christmas to all!!
