i've done this thread before (a few years ago). found a few folks that take their cats out too. not many though.
well, my other cat decided it didn't like boating. right before we'd go out we put the ice in the cooler. this sound would send her running. you'd find her under something, hiding w/large eyes, like, i don't wanna go boating. so we gave up on her if she don't like it...
well, my oldest cat died a few months ago. only thing to cure a broken heart over a cat is another cat...
meet ollie.

he's quite the the little boating kitty. we got him at about 2 or 3 months old and he's been going out boating ever since. maybe 15 times or more. he's 6 months old now.

heres ollie enjoying a nice day at the lake.. 1st time he has ventured up on deck by himself... he's unscathed...

here's ollie checking out the world on a slow boat ride.

here's ollie on a ruffer seas day.
sorry about the wind noise in this vidio. he's oblivious to high seas. crazy cat.. he'll also sleep through a wot run.
i think this one likes to go boating.. he's an indoor/outdoor (w/supervision) cat.
we think he's mighty special cat and surely he makes our days at the lake more fun..

only bad thing i'll say is that ollie attacked our local leo. we were hanging out kinda back in a corner of the lake and the leo came up wondering if we were ok. of course we were. he also wanted to know if i had a dog or cat on board. when we told them a cat, they just snickered and drove off into the sunset with a smile on their faces....

post up your pics of your kitty on board if ya got them.... ;)

It's nice you cat likes to boat. I wouldn't think of taking our cats, they wouldn't even like the car ride to the boat. Our dog doesn't mind the car, but he's not too keen on the boat.

A long time ago I knew some people in the PNW that had a 40' or so sailboat. They had two cats that would travel with them. One night they were anchored out and had gone to bed. They heard a splash and went to investigate. One of the cats had fallen off the boat. They were able to fish it out before it got too far from the boat. But was night and a black cat so it could have turned out badly.

Looks like Ollie is quite the nautical feline. No problems with sleeping in the chop! Glad he likes it...I'm sure he'll provide you with years of entertainment and companionship.:)

i have never taken the cat intentionally so it was ammusing to see it slaunder up to the front the bassboat sniff the tackle box then lay down and go to sleep. on the run in it went down near my legs then followed the cable run down the side so i guess its been sleeping in the battery compartment. on shore i tryed to put the cat in the car but as i was loading everything she shot out and jumped back on the boat and dove back into the rear compartment so i just closed the lid and let her ride back there. now i make sure i check that shes not on board before i leave because if she needs to go shes not trained to hang over the side of the boat so shes got to stay home

I think Finnegan and Ollie would get along famously. Fin just started going out in the boat this year (he's 13)...anything that gets him attention is a positive in his opinion.

good story and food for thought. we've thought some about 'if' ollie goes overboard. we figure and hope he'll swim back to the boat where we will have deloyed an beach towel for him to climb back into the boat. i've only heard this works well, but it makes sense to me... my last cat that died was black. man, there ain't no seeing a black cat at night unless light reflects off it's eyes. total camouflage. which wouldn't be good for a cat overboard...

well, we're trying to promote the nautical feline part. hopefully starting him as a kitten will make it easier to work out. he does seem to have the demeanor for boating. loud boat with thru hulls, no problem, jetskis, no problem. beating of the hull at speed, no problem. he's got some of it down... i'd say at this point wind is what he likes least.. i think this is natural for cats. all mine have disliked high winds. other than that. when he's awake, he does seem to like it...

another great story. i love cat on boat stories... anyways. sounds like all ya need is a litter box. sounds like your cat even wants to go boating to me... :)

i bet they would, they've something in common it seems. what a great couple pics of Finnegan. what happy cat. looks like he's the old pro to me... he's lucky too. looks like ya got a cuddy cabin. sweet. bet he loves that.... my hardtop works pretty good too.

Fin sounds like a great cat. attention is what they like for sure. great that your giving him something new to experience at 13 and he likes it... got more pics... ;) hi Finnegan!! pretty kitty.... it's great to see others with the same idea. cats can be on board quite well i think (gotta be the right kitty though i suppose).
All "ships cats" must be trained to dive in and swim by age 1. Best get busy...
i'm half way there bubba. them hot days we had this summer. ya know the 100+ days. ollie went out on a couple of them days. had the hardtop windows out of the side. still wasn't enough. poor ollie was panting. cat's don't pant to relieve heat best i know. so panting isn't real good i don't think. anyways. we decided into the drink he'd go. up on shore. he didn't have to swim far. but i assure you, he swims good. not sure we'll get to the diving part though. suggestions?. btw, the swim did him good. he quit panting and got a good drink cause the next step for a cat that's been in the drink is a normal cat bath. they lick themselves clean. took him a half hour or so before he fell asleep at my feet by the helm...
a couple more pics.

my wife says the cat is my boat building buddy as she was into every cubby hole and often would claw me from holes in the deck as i was working near them. caught me be by surprise a few times when a claw suddenly scatchs you from out of the hole for the trolling motor plug. im more of a dog person but i have spaniels so i carnt take them because they love water so there always jumping overboard to swim with the gators at least the cat stayed onboard so maybe she will get to go again especially as she knows the inside of the boat better then me and can get under the floor and up into the front of the boat under the doors.
