Do you power your boat onto the trailer? This can wash the bottom away precisely where it sounds like your "cliff" is. You could add some fill in and it might stay longer if you float the boat on . . .

My little town in Maine has a launch ramp that curves as it descends. Lotsa fun for backing bigger boats. Nice mud and rocks if a trailer wheel slips off one side. Oh yeah, and if you don't follow the curve out to sea you will hit rocks on one side or another.

In Australia, at Lake Eucumbene we have a concrete ramp that has a kink just below the average water line. So you're backing it in perfectly and then a bang, and a wheel drops off the ramp onto rocks, bottoming the axle.

Makes you wonder........

You need to fill with rock not dirt and when you put the boat in you need to stop at different places and not the same place all of the time.

You are compacting the soil at one place

If you want just stop at the hump and it will get compacted back down from the the weight
