Ours used to be all volunteer as well. I volunteered for search & rescue years ago, but had no extra time when the kids came along.

Yup, volunteers are the majority of firefighters in our country. I ride a truck that runs over 3000 calls a
year...not sure I would do that for free.

Haha on the jet skis! Did you see what was left of those RV's? One was a three axle pusher!

Wow, Bunker. Thanks for the insight. You single handedly tore that RV apart with the "boat hook". You don't get paid enough, buddy.

bunker108 I have been throwing around the idea of seeing what it takes to become a volunteer firefighter in my area. I live in a very heavily populated area with quite a few stations, but there is one about a 2 blocks away from where I live and everytime I drive by the idea gets a little more engraved in my head like this was something meant to be for me.

Any point of advice for me? I know there is quite a bit of training I would have to complete but I think that would be part of the fun!

First and foremost thank you bunker and thank you to all other firefighters ems personal. From am ex volunteer I know what y'all go through.

@korygrandy if its something you want to do call the hall directly and find out if they accept volunteers or know of a close by volunteer company. If they accept volunteers find out what night is drill night and stop in and talk to the other guys and ask for an application. Just be prepared that if you do join there will come a night when you see something you wish you never had. If you truly want to know pm me as im not about to explain on a public forum. Let's just say even 4 years later there are still nightmares. Im not saying this to deter or scare you but is the stark reality/truth

Thanks for the video.

I just retired after 25 years in the FD. Went from FF/EMT (in 1986) thru the ranks to Paramedic & PM Instructor, Driver Engineer, EMS Officer, Lieutenant, Battalion Chief, and left as Assistant Fire Chief (2010). Keep your helmet & gloves on, keep your eyes open, and keep your nose in the books.
