I picked this beauty up at an estate auction this weekend! I paid a bit more than I wanted to, but it's a nice upgrade from my 1963 14-footer which had been well abused before I got it. This one is a 1977 Seafarer 14. This makes four Starcrafts in my current fleet and the 9th one I've owned in my lifetime. It also happens to be the first boat I have ever purchased that needed absolutely ZERO work to be water ready! I'm going to throw my 1958 Evinrude 10 on it this weekend and get it wet!

That is a super nice high sided tinnie there. I'd have jumped on that one also.

That would imply that I go fishing... which I don't. Fishing means sitting still for long periods, a skill I never quite mastered. ;)

You need to go samllmouth bass fishing with me. No sitting still, work it, work it, work it. Switch rods, reel, walk the dog, slash. Muskie fishing; jigging and casting 1-2 pound baits can get exhausting, especially in the Detroit River. Hey, fisherman are athletes, maybe more so than Nascar drivers.:p

I collect old outboards. I needed something to run them on!

There ya go:)

Shoot, all sorts of ways a man can justify a new (old) boat;)

I've run out of excuses at my place. Maybe I could go the "collect outboards" route and see what she says.

Chinewalker, truly you married the right woman. many (with no poetry or love of boats in their soul) would suggest that a trash can could be had for $30 at Home Despot;)

Congrats Chinewalker, I like that rig too:)

Great little tinny to swap motors on and off to keep 2-stroke fumes in the air.:D

Stability of your average trash can leaves something to be desired. Do you add outriggers?

Seriously, though, my wife has bought me more motors than I can count! She's got the eagle eye when it comes to finding them at garage sales, the scrap yard, etc.

That's what I was gonna say - I'm much busier when I'm fishing than when I'm working.

Re: The fleet grows a bit more...

Digging up my old thread. Just got her registered after going 3 rounds with the DMV and trying to match up schedules with the estate's executrix. Hoping to splash it this weekend. My biggest decision now is what motor to put on the transom???

decisions, decisons. I love the look of the '58 10 hp you mentioned initially, but if you had an 18-20 hp of similar vintage you'd be zooming like no other. Having too many cool old outboards is a good problem to have. I'm jealous :)

Are you taking one off the rack or going collecting? Glad the State of NY finally gave in - !! months to reg/splash a water ready boat. Some times estate sales can be frustrating.

Re: The fleet grows a bit more...

I will probably start with my '70 Johnson 20. I actually thought about the '58 10 - partly because it's already been run this year on my 12-foot Dura-Nautic. But, I'm a big guy and a 10 on the back would be barely above planing speed. I agree that the 18-20 size is about perfect. I put many miles on a similar tinny as a kid with an assortment of 15s & 18s, mostly with a '56 Evinrude 15 that I recently reacquired in non-running condition. That'll be next winter's project to get that one going again.

I have a 1928 Elto Quad that I want to run at some point, too. Four cylinders, 18-horsepower. My Dad had it rebuilt back in the 1980s and dry fired it once just to make it pop. We never got it on a boat, though.
