Ladies and gents of the iboats forum. This is my first post to your forum, but hopefully not my last. I seek advice. I am from Sweden and i'm kinda new to the boat owning fraternity. Anyway, try as I god damn might, i cannot get a service for my outboard... A common problem in Sweden, think it has something to do with the prospect of bigger and better jobs coming along, so they arent keen to commit to my rather measly 50hp:(. So, no one else has really helped me so far. I have learned by doing, (and failing in many cases). So gonna do it myself, seeing as thats the way its gotta be.

SO my painfully simple question is this. I have a Mercury Classic 50hp 2 stroke from 86. Serial No 9451609. Is it particularly difficult to service myself?

The engine much like the rest of the boat has been without love for the past 10 years. It runs good enough for that, but i feel i owe it a service.

Sorry for the rant...

ALL and any help appreciated.

Re: The First Time

It is not a difficult engine to work on. Did you try to order a book online, such as from iboats.com?

I had an 1988 200hp black max and it was fairly easy to work on the mechanical end of it but book is most needed for rebuilding of carbs and checking of the electronics. Major maintance is spark plugs carbs once in a while gear reducer oil and impeller
