So far so good. Taken me 3 days to haul the material, dig the holes and set the post. I should set the 2x2 today and maybe start with the fence boards. Thanks to everyone for their help and advice.

Hey Nandy, that 3rd post from the right on the first picture looks like it is 1/16 inch out of square ... :p;)

Looking good, my friend! Anxious to see the final product!

Looks like it is being done by an old pro! Your lot looks fairly level so that should makes things easier when you install the panels. Ahhh, that red clay!

:D It's much easier when the house faces east.

Re: The fence is going along well

I would so love to do this exact thing but I've got this &^%$&%* easement on the one side of my "property" that makes it so I can only put a fence from the edge of my house back which would be pretty pointless and I'd lose a third of my yard. The developer failed to mention this easement to us when we bought the place.

Re: The fence is going along well

I got done tonight with nailing all the sides fence boards. I have a photo of how the horizontal 2x2 look and I will take a few photos tomorrow after I finish a few details. I will start the gates tomorrow. There will be a 10' 6" gate for driving the boat in and out and a 6' 2" gate at the back. Any advice on building the gates will be appreciated.

Are you guys allowed to paint your houses any other color than taupe? Although taupe is very soothing...

Looks good!
I told the wife that I could redo the 200' on one side of the property.
All I got was an eye roll.

With as much as I do on these properties, I don't see why she still wants a contractor to do stuff for 5x the cost.

I'm inspired, Nandy!
I'm going to replace the worn out fence myself!

How big are the gates and what are you using for materials? Several ways to do this stuff... Glad to hear you've planned to get the trailer out. :D

I will use the treated 2x4 to do the frame of the gates then nail the fence boards to it.

You probably mentioned this before but what type of wood are you using for the posts?

Re: The fence is going along well

Didnt got to do much today since the girlfriend took my bank card with her. Hopefully tomorrow I will get to finish up the gates. Will use the gates as an excused to get me that miter saw I wanted. You know how hard is to do them 45 deg angles on them 2x4 with an electric circular saw.... ;-)

Oh, Im using treated 4x4x8 for the all the posts. The corner and gate posts have concrete.

Looks really nice. I got my mitre saw at Harbor Freight and it's actually pretty darn solid.

Re: The fence is going along well

You didn't say how big the gates are going to be. But this is an easy and cheap way to tension the gate frame to avoid the enevitable sag. From the upper hinge side to the opposing lower corner of the frame, install 1/4" eye bolts at the interior corners. Get a 6-8" turnbuckle for each gate (hook end is easiest) and some 3/16 aircraft cable with 4 clamps per gate. Extend the turnbuckle fully, and connect the cable to the lower eye with two clamps and then to the turnbuckle connected to the upper eye. Yank like hell and clamp off the cable with the other two clamps. Tension the cable to level the gate. Over time, you'll be able to tighten the turnbuckle as needed to keep the gate level, as the cable over time will stretch a bit and the wood will wear to the elements. Should set you back about $30 bucks.
