At one point during a little league game, the coach said to one of his young players, "Do you understand what cooperation is? What a team is?"

The little boy nodded in the affirmative.

"Do you understand that what matters is whether we win together as a team?" The little boy nodded yes.

"So," the coach continued, "when a strike is called, or you're out at first, you don't argue or curse or attack the umpire. Do you understand all that?" Again the little boy nodded.

"Good," said the coach, "now go over there and explain it to your mother."

Re: The Coach

As a former little league umpire, I can say there is sooooo much truth in that.

Re: The Coach

I can vouch for that. I used to coach Little League on base. The military families were very good about it. The off-base teams could be just downright atrocious. I had a rep as a coach. I would ask them very nicely to not use foul language or berate ANY child on EITHER team. I would do this the first time. The second time, they would be informed that they either left the area immediately, or there would be a police escort within 10 minutes. We had the backing of the League officials on this and police cooperation. Only had to have police escort one time.

AK Chappy
