Every ramp should have one of these... Mine has 2!

Ok that is just silly to say. Common sense has nothing to do with putting the plug in. Everybody will forget it as some point and in the states that require you show up with your plug out of the boat, this is a good reminder. The bigger problem to me is that we are now told we can't put our plug in ahead of time.

That's darn good! Need another sign saying: Please check/prepare your boat in the STAGING area, NOT at the LAUNCHING ramp!

These go right along with the sticker on the lawn mower saying to not use it as a hedge trimmer.

Kinda funny you say that because this past Sunday I was waiting almost 10 minutes while a truck/trailer sat on the ramp... The guy had moved his boat into a slip and proceeded to deploy fenders, check his outboard, and deploy additional dock lines all while his truck and trailer were on the ramp. He could have done what everyone else does and tied up to the courtesy dock and removed his vehicle and then moved the boat to the slip, but he must have thought better of that plan. When he finally looked up, I asked if that was his truck and in a surprised voice he responded "Yes, I'll be right there".

^^^^^ Just saw a guy do the same thing this weekend. He pulled around all the boats in the staging area and just backed right into the ramp. Trouble was, he didn't back all the way in for prepping the boat and not only got in front of people but blocked access to the other 3 ramps. It was the typical bone head thing - about 10 people pile out of the truck, the kids start putting on life jackets as some adults stand around and some start untying the tube and start taking straps off the boat, tying up lines, and putting out fenders. Some people are just oblivious to the rest of the world!.

Signs signs everywhere signs ... To make that one truly effective you'd need to add "before you put the boat in the water" to it. And print it in espanol. Perhaps add a picture of a smiling, absurdly multi-ethnic, 'family' installing their plug?

Sigh, where will it end. Personally I don't believe "Idiot Proofing" everything to be the answer. Idiots can be purty wily and will eventually figure a way around it. Not to call anybody who didn't put the plug in an idiot but I sure felt like one last time I forgot.

But do we really need another sign? C'mon guys!

Another sign is needed to pull your boat out to the pack up area too instead of just pulling your boat up the ramp blocking it for others to load/unload and start putting on your snap cover.... :banging head:

Why can't you arrive with your boat's plug installed??? I've never heard of this.

You will find out soon enough bud, but since you don't know I will give you a heads up,

In areas where the Zebra and Quagga Mussels are invading, the Authorities have a checklist of items to check for water in all trailered boats and I mean they stop you at the ramp approach before you can reach the ramp, just the usual stuff live wells, anchors, water in the hull, even if it is just rain water and the outdrive must be drained as well. The process of decontaminating your boat is a 130+ degree bath for the inside of the hull and any areas that are wet. Now you may wonder why the plug has anything to do with it, well it is presumed that if you haul your boat without a plug then the hull is dry and therefore move on to the next item. If you do show up with the plug in they are supposed to visually inspect the hull, any moisture and they are required to decontaminate, so yes you could show up with the plug in but be prepared to be decontaminated which normally isn't so bad, just a 15-20 minute delay but I can tell you I had one time where they held me off the water for 4 hours because the Hottsy was out of propane and they had to go buy more, never again.

In some states, at least MN, it's illegal to transport your boat with the plug installed.

Yep, that's the deal in MN. You are an outlaw if you forget to remove your plug and apparently according to the above, an idiot if you leave it out. When you get all the facts, as much as a sign is silly and a reminer of the nanny state, if a single person is reminded and averts a sunken boat or a blocked access, then I'm for it. You have a couple kids, maybe a rough ride to the access and at least at 90% of the lakes I frequent, no prep area, I guarantee that people are going to forget. I forgot once and literally the split second before I pushed the boat off of the trailer, the bildge kicked on and saved me pushing it off and from disaster.

OOOHHH NOOOO, your in for it now MarylandDmax, thats bad juju. One thing I have learned over the years, don't tempt fate. Everyone, and I mean everyone will forget that plug at least once in their boating career.

i think we need a sign that says 3 minuite unload and load time only! any more then 3 minuites and you will be cut loose, or towed then park a tow truck in the lot.

i got stuck behind a dinghy the onther day they pull it out and park 5 foot ahead of the waters edge then the 2 guys talk! talk@ talk$$! over 10 minuites his idiot its talking and not even putting straps on or securing the boat just standing there. finnaly the jet skii ahead of me gets his wetsuit on and back in ties up pulls out took him 45 seconds. i then back down and wait for him while he was running back.
