. . . still got nuttin' for ice:

Smith, Menard escape injuries in Colorado road accident: NASCAR drivers #78-Regan Smith and #27-Paul Menard, along with Smith's wife Megan and a friend of the Smiths, escaped injuries in a Colorado road accident today (Wednesday, approximately 8:45 a.m. MT). The foursome was on the way to a nearby ski slope. Smith lost control of his Silverado truck after hitting a patch of ice near his mountain home in Evergreen, outside of Denver. The truck slid off the road and crashed into a collection of trees. Smith and Menard will compete in Sunday's Kobalt Tools 400 Sprint Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. glad no one was hurt.....

they are still gonna get razzed in the pits tho......lol

as new drivers (16 years old) in canada....its kind of a ritual to take your old beater to a frozen lake and spemd several hours a week spinning out, doing doughnuts, e brake turns......and generally learning to drive on ice.

you really learn alot, like once the tires loose traction......start praying......lol

Ok in all fairness there were many accidents on the same day, including in the same area where Regan slid off the road, obviously he is new to Colorado but he is well liked and has the overwhelming support of the locals that maybe he needs to attend a winter driving course just like all new Coloradans should.

I would be more then willing to offer my superior winter driving skills to mentor the young man in exchange for a ride in his car.....

We didn't have much for frozen lakes in Omaha, so I used church parking lots, they were empty 6 days a week.:D

The typical Silverado has 2WD, no traction control and no stability control. That will make most drivers look awful on ice. An AWD vehicle with TC and ST can make most drivers look awful good.

Alright dubs . . . you name one driver from circuits that do play in the rain who has been successful in NASCAR. It may seem simple, but they just don't cut it. Closest are Montoya and Ambrose in the last 10 years ;)

BTW, I have spent time in Evergreen. Beautiful!!

Despite posting this, I agree. Liked the irony is all . . . :)

HE, HE, HE, If they drove F1 you would not even hear about this. Sorry could not help myself. They would just adjust to the conditions:p

I drove the Richard Petty Experience (18 Laps) at LVMS and I have alot of respect for all Nascar drivers....and I was only averaging 140 MPH. There was a chunk of the seat in the *** of the firesuit when I took it off.

Lipp,

I see that your posts always have a big Canadian flag at the bottom of them, but you're in Colorado. Are you a military guy posted in C-Springs, or a transplanted Canuck. Just curious....wife and I are planning on retiring somewhere in the southern States and would love to stay more than 6 months out of the year, but the red tape being what it is, it looks like we'll have to purchase two homes..one in Canada for the summer and one in the US for riding out the winters.

LOL ok Long story is that I am not Canadian and actually never been to Canada, I am however a BIG Hockey Fan and we have a pretty good Hockey thing here on iboats especially when the WJC comes around each year, I have always been supportive of our Sister Nation to the north and after the US I root for Canadian Hockey, I normally have a big US flag for my Avatar, but right now I am suffering the summertime blues with so many others so I have my Harley up right now and my Canadian Flag flies alone because I don't know how I can change it since the site upgrade so I leave it so that I don't lose it!! Hang around long enough you will find that our Hockey threads are pretty lively and the betting is even better!!

I do know a couple Canadians that are stationed here in Colorado though, and I can honestly say I hope someday to visit the great white north!! I really want to see the Northern Lights!

Good People, Beautiful women and GREAT BEER!!

I sincerely sympathize with your "pain"! My Harley is sitting in garage on a lift to keep the weight off the wheels and a heavy custom made cover sitting over it. I can almost hear my Road King Classic calling for me now, but we still have a lot of snow on the roads..*groan*. Oh well...summer is just around the corner. I'm hoping to be stationed to C-Springs in the summer of 2013, but now I have to figure out how to get two cars, my Harley and my new pontoon boat down there without spending a fortune on gas..*grin*. Yeah yeah..I know...it's the "burden" I have to bear ...lol. I'm heading to Texas at the end of the month to pick up my "new to me" boat and I'm looking forward to the experience. Take care and have a great day.
