Hello ALL ( Hi J.B.)

well Iam going to pick up my merc once more from the shop, this time they put a popit valve in it as well as a thermostat!!!! they phoned me yesterday and said that they ran it for 30 min and it didn,t heat up and they said that it had warm water comming out of the taddle tail hose .I know that this is good cause my 9.9 does the same thing. now what do I do ???? keep it or sell the whole thing. Iam into this motor for 2500.00 buck now and I know I won,t get that back if I just sell the motor, so I would have to sell the boat as well as the motor to come out even!!!! or do I keep it and maybe go threw this again .... Its a tuff call the boat is so nice and I spent so much time working on it, I really don,t know what to do. I guess I will have to think hard on this one. the bad part about it is that my kids haven,t gone out in the boat yet do to these problems and Iam afraid to take them out thinking that the motor will fail again. WHAT TO DO ???????????

Barry/Lori:

I don't recall hearing what the dealer ultimately did for you regarding the repairs they made prior to the second failure. At that time, I thought you'd already spent around $1,600. Now you're saying you've got over $2,500 into it? Yikes! Doesn't sound like that dealer did you any favors at all!

If they didn't correct the problem that caused the first two failures...then you're very likely to experience another. You need to get some kind of warranty protection IN WRITING from the dealer performing the work. If they are unwilling to do that, then by all means sell that thing and don't ever...NEVER EVER do business with that dealer again.

The experiences you guys are going through is all too common in the marine industry. Mercury...as good as they are...have made a few not so good models as well.

Good luck guys...so sorry you're having such a rough time with all this...

Walt

The mechanic that rebuildt this thing twice should water test the boat for at least an hour at different rpms.

Here is how I see it... take motor you just fixed by a hull/boat put motor on & SELL...!!!!

Then get a motor that you like & want... keep the hull/boat that you fixed up... this is the time of the year to do it... boats galore in paper & people are thinking about next year & boat shows in JAN/FEB!!!!

But I do agree... some of the responsiblity does lie with the dealer!!!

:(
