Re: The $160 Starcraft Jet Restoration!

Thanks guys!

I went to go look at another Evinrude parts motor hoping I might be able to use it in the future. Problem was it had turned into a solid block or RUST and was frozen. His neighbor had the boat sitting in his driveway so I gave him my # and told time to have him give me a call. Apparently it was a barn find, problem is it was behind the barn and not in it lol. From what the PO tells me it had grass and trees growing out of it! Their intention was to rebuild so the removed the interior, soil, trees ect. With half the work already done I couldn't pass it up! I'm hoping to get it sealed sanded and painted before fall, then continue throughout winter.

Wish me luck! More pics to come!

Judging by some barns I've seen, a "near" barn find is better than a collapsed barn find. And cleaned out already is just icing on the cake. You done good on that one jb81. Maybe I should move to Michigan?

Here are a few more pictures for everyones enjoyment! I hope to be able to get it all cleaned out this weekend along with most of the trim removed. Over the last 24 hours we've had quite a bit of rain! Enough that she has about 3-4" of water in her! Should be interesting to see how bad she leaks once the driveway dries out.

It came with the org. windscreen and a replacement and all the hardware that was removed. However one of the supports for the org. windscreen is pretty beat up, Im hoping that I might be able to work it back into shape??? If not we will see how the replacement fits.

Re: The $160 Starcraft Jet Restoration!

Well the little one graced me with a 4 hour nap this afternoon so I was able to get the old tub all cleaned out! It took a lot longer than I thought it was going to, mainly because I quickly realized most of my tools are still at my brothers house from the SS restore:facepalm: Never the less with a hose, shovel and a lot of rocking of the boat I finally got her all shined up. I also removed 90% of all the hardware (everthing that didnt require a drill) and sorted it based on what can still be reused. Im looking forward to getting the dash out this weekend! Any tips? I did read some other Jet projects and some said the deck has to be removed to get the old one out in one piece? Is this the case?

In the mean time, here are some cleaned up pics! Enjoy!

Well, I think there three places that "might" need some leak repair. You should look over everything real close.

The dash on my Jupiter was similar. I did not have to remove the deck. There were a zillion fasteners in it though. You have to remove the rubber strip in the aluminum channel on top to reveal a bunch of screws.

I was looking at that rubber strip this afternoon. What is the best way to remove it? From what I can tell its one piece and in really good condition. Id really hate to damage it while removing it.

I don't think it tucks up in there too hard. Put some tape on the end of a straight screwdriver (to dull it) and use that.

Re: The $160 Starcraft Jet Restoration!

Here are a few pictures of the '57 35 hp Lark I plan on using. I posted them a couple months ago in my SS resto, but I thought Id post again being its a little more relevant this time. I picked her up on CL for next to nothing and the added bonus was I only had to drive down the block =) She runs well and starts w/o issue, however she does need a new water pump and the PO kept the pressurized tank... So I guess nows the time to start looking for one as the end of the season is just around the corner. All in all its a good little motor. Since the pictures were taken Ive sanded the cowl and started to soda blast the leg and LU.

Re: The $160 Starcraft Jet Restoration!

well Ive made a lot more progress to date than I honestly thought I would, most of which is likely due to the PO gutting the hull prior to my purchase. So far in the last few days Ive sanded the topside, removed all trim that I intend to, dash, splash well and started to polish some odds and ends! Next on the list is to get her off the trailer and move her to the back yard for the big flip!

here are some pics! Enjoy!
