Thanks for all the help last year on proper engine height on my old runabout with an add on tilt trim, I dropped the engine about 3/4" and my cavitation problems have dissapeared. Next winter I will resurface the hull and remove the rough texture.
It runs about 30 mph at about 5300 rpm WOT on the old 66 merc 500. Now what is the best rpm range to run it at for good engine life and fuel economy. It will do about 23-24 mph around the 4100-4200 range. I know these 2 cycles like to run at their top end carbon up less up there. But what range would be the best overall.

Looks like your right on Reccomended range is 4,800 to 5,500.
Should be no problem throttling back to a cruising speed.Corboning is usually associated with no wake speeds, trolling and such.
