I HAVE CHECKED THE SHIFTING MECH AND THE SQUARE O RING TODAY---SHIFTING MECH SEEMS A LITTLE OFF CENTER NOT SURE HOW TO CORRECT??BUT WITHOUT COULD ALIGHN WITH NEEDLENOSE PLIERS BUT BOOK PRETTYMUCH SAYS THAT YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO SO.SHIFTER IS IN FORWARD FULL THRODDEL AND I HAVE PLAYED WITH THAT ALSO--IS IT NESSESRY THAT THE SHIFTER BE IN FULL THRODEL FORWARD OR JUST IN FORWARD GEAR???BUT I AM THINKING THAT THE ENGINE IS NOT ALIGNED PROPERLEY ANY TIPS WOULD HELP THANKS!!@!!!

In forward the shift shaft assy. will be a little off center. You should check the alignment now and correct any problems. If you dont have the tool, You might want to pay a mechanic to do the alignment. It normally does not take long. Or you can buy the tool for around 75.00<br /><br />You did turn the propeller while trying to install??? This helps the splines to align. (You did grease the splines??)
