Hello,
First of all I would like to thank Dhadley and JB Cornwell for all the great input in the past.
I have been reading up on Split-Fire plugs and have heard both pro's and con's on these guys.
Is there any "real" advantage or would they be destructive to a 225 V6?
Are there any other plugs that have been found to perform better/safer in the 225 than the original service manual recommends?

Hey, Joe. Stay away from Split-Fires. Go with the recommended Champions. Two strokes are too sensitive to small differences. Split Fires have been blamed for more than one deceased outboard.

Happy Boating.
JB

I couldn't agree more. I know Champions had some "out of the box" issues in the past but I really haven't seen that in quite a while. If you have an OMC stick with Champion.

Good luck!

Corm's right stay away from those Splitfire things. They got their butts sued off for false claims in advertising.

That engine should have Champion QL77-JC4's in her. If you have loading problems at idle and don't need the resistor "Q" plugs you can go with straight L77-JC4's. they are ever so slightly hotter.

In the last few year OMC has addressed the loading problems at ilde and recommended the 82 series plug to cure it. QL82YC's are the resister version and L82YC's are the non resistor.

My 90 225 Rude runs and idles fine on L77-JC4's but loads up on the QL77's. I like to run the coldest plug I can get away with. I'd start with the 77 series and see how she does. You can tell if you need the resistor plug if you can hear your engine running in your VHF radio.. Buy your plugs at an Auto part store like Pep Boys or NAPA. Lot less than at a marina and plugs are plugs.
