My partner cancelled last minute - decided it was too cold. So I launched solo at Eisenhower Park, but the wind was too strong - my little boat don't do well in three foot swells. After 15 minutes I had covered less than three miles, so I pulled off into the mouth of Little Mineral creek to catch my breath. I had just decided to pack it in when I looked around & there was a big flock of gulls circling & diving.

First cast brought a 5 pound striper, right outside the entrance to Little Mineral Marina, & I was the only boat in sight! Caught three more from that school. The wind settled down a little so I ventured out, found one more school in the flats on the west (lee) side of Preston point & caught three more big ones.

Seven fish total 21 pounds, that's a great day for me! Three over 20 inches, 3 more over 18 & one 16.5 inch 2 pounder that was gill-hooked else would have been released.

The biggest one came on a 4" storm wildeye chartreuse/silver swim shad, the rest on chart/white slabs.

Temps in the low 50's, not too bad, the water is much warmer, but the wind (ENE, must have been about 20 - 25mph) kept me away from the Oklahoma side - next time I'm thinking maybe I'll go up north & launch in geezerland.

Uh-oh, Nate, for some reason I had 21" in my mind as having a limit of 2. Thanks, you might have saved me a big fine on my next trip. Guess I'll have to turn myself in, now that the photographic evidence is all over the internet. :(

Edit and eat. Next time you catch 21" + throw a couple back as self punishment.

Can't believe your partner canceled at the last minute and you didn't holler at any of your iboat buddies. Shame shame shame.

I bet in addition to the illegal fish you caught, you didn't have a Texoma Fishing License. HA HA

Only kidding

How do Striper taste. Never caught one but may give it a shot this spring. Nice catch!

I fought with myself over that one.....Normally I would say wallys top the list, but a 14-16" striper is really very good.....won't say better than walleye, just "you won't be dissapointed".
