Texas trailer registration - homebuilt question?

We just bought two SeaDoo GTX's on a double trailer; have the signed titles for the Sea-Doo's but the owner did not have a title for the trailer - pretty sure it was registered as a homebuilt but not 100% certain; it's was his brothers.
The trailer has a license tag that expired earlier this year.

What's the best way to go with regard to the trailer @ the DMV?
- Bring in the trailer metal tag and see what they say or just show up w/ the titles for the SeaDoo's and claim a home-made trailer?

BTW - we're in Tarrant County Texas.

Thanks,
Steve

I just transferred a untitled trailer. The original owner signed over the receipt from the last time they renewed the registration. Take that and the bill of sale to the DMV and all done. Oh, a check for the taxes.

When I registered my dad's trailer last year in Tom Green County, all i needed was the prior registration and the bill of sale. When I registered the boat, I went to TPWD I needed a title for the boat and a title for the engine. It was fairly simple and took about 30 minutes to do.

If you have trouble getting it registered in your state you have the option of registering it in Maine (perfectly legal and can be done online) all they require is the registration card.

I copied this from the Texas DMV...if the seller gave you the registration card and bill of sale you should be good to go. Seems like you only need a title when over 4000lbs.

"For used trailers over 4,000 pounds gross weight, be sure to give the buyer the trailer title (signed on the back) and a complete Form 130-U, which you also must sign as the seller. For used trailers under 4,000 pounds gross weight, provide the new buyer with the registration receipt, a bill of sale and MCO (if available).
Trailer Type
Required Ownership Document(s)
Used trailer under 4,000 lbs. gross weight
Bill of Sale + Registration Receipt
Used trailer over 4,000 lbs. gross weight
Certificate of Title"
