I want to peg my weight on a Texas rig. How do you guys do it, just tie a knot above the weight?

Also, have any of you tried the Berkley Transition? I fished with one guy that really liked it, and another guy that thought it was low quality product. It's line watchers line. It's supposed to be invisible under the water, but easy to see above the surface. I just spooled up one of my baitcasters with it. I'll give it a workout this weekend.

Those new "Peg It" things work well. I tried that line, It came off the reel when I got home. I found the best combo for line watching is the high vis yellow Power pro with a leader of Flurocarbon.

I used to use toothpick too but found that it cinch the line and weaken it. The peg it stuff is pretty cheap though. When you peg it, slip the pointy end up the bottom of the weight until it come out the top and then pull the weight and rubber down to the hook, snip off excess. Pegged weight have 2 applications only in my book. Skipping dock and heavy vegetation, anymore, I use a jighead for dock skipping because sometime the peg-it comes off.

OK, why isn't tying a knot just above the weight an option?

the knot will weaken your line.

A knot in your line is just as bad as an abrasion. May be fine for a small fish in no cover, but if you need to haul em out of heavy weeds of a log jam 'Snap!'

I have been using tookpicks for several years with no problems, I use the fancy colored ones. You break off the tip in the nose of the weight and once it is in the water is swells to hold the weight in place.

Knot doesn't work. The hole in the weight is too big. I'll try the toothpick thing.

Might I ask "WHY" you want to peg the weight?

It's easier to skip under docks with the weight pegged to the bait.

Also if you are fishing around logs the weight might fall and the worm may stay on top of the log, you really want the worm to get to the bottom.

Would a little dab of quick drying superglue work? I've never tried it but thought about it while reading this post.

I use a rubber band. Just tie it around the line and trim it, then pull the weight down over it.

Superglue would probably make the line waaaaaaay to brittle IMHO.

Re: Texas Rig / Transition

here is an improved method for a texas rig, ` the sinkers will be inside the worm , offering several advantages: they keep the worm from sliding down the shank when u set the hook; they wont seperate from the worm, so pegging is unnecessary; here is how.
thread the line through a plastic worm so it comes out about one-fourth of the way back. simply use the hook as a needle. thread several 1/64 or 1/32 ounce bullet sinkers onto the line nose first and tie on the hook. draw the sinkers and the eye of the hook into the worm by pulling on the line; push the hook into the worm so the point barely protrudes. the worm should hang straight so it doesn`t twist the line.
