I have recently aquired a 1959 Texas Maid Fiesta from my grandpa. Does anyone have any information/brochures on Texas Maid boats? I've looked, but maybe not hard enough. Thanks.

Re: Texas Maid

Welcome to iboats.

We probably have more Texas Maid owners here then anywhere else!

Go to the main forum listing http://forums.iboats.com/ then look for the search tab and type in Texas Maid .... that will yield you about 125 +/- results. Some good reading. People have them and use them.

Haven't checked lately, but fiberglassics.com used to have some good period TM brochures on line...that site may still be under reconstruction though. I'm in the Tejas Maid club here on Iboats.

Re: Texas Maid

Thanks for the web page. I already checked it out from other threads that I've seen on Texas Maids. Unfortunetly the site is still under construction which is too bad because it sounds like that site gives the most hope to anyone looking for info. Oh well. I plan on getting some pix on here later today so everyone can see what I'm getting myself into...

Do Texas Maids have hull numbers, or where they even required to have them? And if so, where are they usually located? My insurance company may need the number. Thanks.

Re: Texas Maid

Greetings fellow Texas Maid owners!

Well, I decided that I should post some pictures of my Texas Maid. To my knowledge, this is a 1959 Texas Maid Fiesta. My grandpa never uses it anymore and asked if I would like it. Having never owned a boat before I said sure. I'm not sure if this is going to be the boat for me, but it's mine for now and we'll see how it goes over the next year or so. Now that I've owned for about a year now, it hasn't been run. In fact, it hasn't run to my knowledge since 2003. There is currenty a 1975 Mercury 65hp motor powering the boat.IMG_1981-1.jpg

I would love to hear comments/concerns/questions. Thanks for looking.

Sweet. Before I started my current project, I looked and looked for a Fiesta, but wound up with an Impala...somewhat smaller than the Fiesta. Before you start dropping $$$ into it, get it running and put it on the water and see how it suits you. If you like it enough to keep it and refit it, there are dozens of threads on the restoration forum to guide you along. Should be a hull number stamped into the port corner of the transom somewhere, but they're not easily seen.

Re: Texas Maid

Yeah, my plan right now is to get the motor up and running before our fishing opener, in about a month. My long range plan is currently to get it running for the summer and see what I like/don't like about it. I had set goals last year of when I wanted to be on the water: Fishing Opener(May 8th), then Memorial Day, July 4th and finally Labor Day. Sadly all those days past and no fun with this boat on the water.
I recently came into some money, so I have a limited budget to get the boat in working order and the #1 thing on the list is getting the motor running. So far I've re-wired the trailer and put some new tires on the trailer. I'm pretty sure the rest of my budget is going to put into getting the motor running.
The real unfortunate problem is that if I do really like this boat, even with all this information about restoration on this site, is that I really don't have the time/money/tools/storage space to get anything done. Oh well, I'm confident I'll have a blast with this boat no matter how long I own it. I now kind of feel that I bit off more than I can chew, but we'll see. It's going to be fun finding out...I hope.

Re: Texas Maid

Ugh..The Mercury Outboard Gods are not smiling upon me. I got a phone call from the repair shop the other day which wasn't good. They told me that 2 of the 3 cylinders are shot. I'm going to talk to them this week and check out my options with them. To be continued...
