Testing/repair trolling motor?

Anyone know how to test the brushes and motor on a trolling motor?
I get power at the brushes but motor doesn't spin. Removed metal cassing from magnents and cleaned it out real good but still nothing. Anyone have any suggestions on how to test?
Also is there a way I can find out the year on it? It's a Minn Kota.

The problem could be in the "flexable" wire that connect to the brushes.

Look at each wire very carfully for any change in color of the wire. If you see a white or slightly lighter color wire.....it is bad and must be replaced. I had a mechanice at a alternator shop show me where one wire was bad.......hard to believe that really was the problem....looked ok to me???

I had this problem on a outboard starting motor.....and a set of new brushes fixed the motor.
