I have a 1983 150 V6 Johnson outboard. When I turn the key to the on position the warning alarm sounds. When the key is in the start position and the motor starts the alarm sound dims down and stops.(It does not stop right away). I disconnected the temp sensor on the right side of the head and alarm stoped. How can I check the buzzer? Or could it be a bad temp. sensor? Thanks.

Re: Testing overheat alarm?

Could be the sensor going bad Hamms.....

Welcome to iboats Hamms.

You probably already know that each head has a temp sensor. Give this a try.

Disconnect each sensor. Turn the key to on and ground the lead (one at a time) going to the wire harness from each sensor. If each gives a steady tone from the alarm horn, the horn should be good to go. Reconnect the sensor from the right head and see if the problem persists. If it does, the problem is in the sensor.
