I was just wondering if anyone has tested ign. components with a regular meter instead of a DVA. I tested the stator and its like 128 vac but am not sure how accurate it is compared to the DVA meter. This motor has no top end rpm have done carbs lower pitch prop which i found out the boat had the proper prop on it already new fuel pump lines and filters, idles fine gets on plane good but will not rev over 4000, when i redid everything last year i thought it was ok it was spinning at 4600 but this year only 4000 again. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: testing ignition

All meters set to AC are expecting a sine wave ....your ouput is not sine wave but the spec in the manuals assumes you are using an analogue meter ( one with a needle) If all your charge coils are giving the same reading then then you can assume its ok.
Analogue meters are better for testing on boats as they dont sample and average like a digital and there lower resistance means you dont get confusing results...
