testing choke

How can you test a used choke solenoid (off of johnson 1975) It has three wires. A short black (ground?) and two long wires, one purple and white, the other purple and yellow. <br />Thanks

Both the purples can go together and go to the purple / white (I think). Anyway to the side the choke button is on. The other side went to a heat sensor that was like a "cold - half choke" deal. They did away with it years ago. <br /><br />Anyway, to test it the black goes to ground. The purples go to power.
