G'day All,

Last year i replaced my rectifier and regulator assembly(sits on top of block just behind fly wheel)thinking it was a little questionable after the tacho would drop in and out.It fixed the problem but now the tacho only reads to about 4200 then drops out, it ocassionally flickers if you continue to opoerate past 4200. I am cetain this unit has rpm limiter built in but have not tested it not wanting to launch a piston through the block.
Does any body know which wires on the terminal block i should piggy back onto with an alternative tacho. I have a timing light with built in tacho/dwell meter good quality unit. Would it be best to buy an aftermaket tacho then do a water test as I have no test wheel available, I do have a large 500 ltr test tank for the motor that I use to flush after a coast trip.

Thanks to all for any help, as usual great reading and information on here really like this site most useful on the web i think.
Again thanks, Dean

Re: Testing 94/95 115 Tachometer

An automotive tach/dwell/timing light may or may not work depending on how the tach section gets its signal. If it gets the signal from the spark plug clamp lead then it should work. If it and the dwell meter get there signal via a separate wire to the ignition coil then it may not because the tach/dwell cannot recognize the "pulse" signal an outboard tach sees. Also understand that a two stroke outboard fires the plug once every engine revolution whereas a four stroke (your car) fires it every other revolution. You must therefore take that into account.
