My 79 Envinrude 55HP has been sitting in a test tank filled with water for about 4 days now. I plan to let it sitting there for another 2 weeks while I carry out various tests. The motor will be started occassionaly. Even though marine motors are designed to sit in the water, is it safe to leave engine sitting in test tank for that long without running?

Yes and no.Just insure that you inspect the lower unit oil for water intrusion after maitenance is complete. Is there a reason that you can't drain and refill tank?

JohnM,

The water won't hurt it as long as the L/U seals are good.

Test tanks do tend to get a little "funky" though with all that exhaust mixed in with the water. It will be a real bear to clean, when you do take it out.

We have water restrictions in our area at the moment so I'm not to keen on draining and refilling every couple of days. Water is very murky at the moment.

No problem. If it can't sit in the tank for a couple of weeks....its got a problem that needed fixing anyway.

It still blows me away to see boats sitting in their salt water slip week in and week out with the outboard down in the water! Drives me crazy. :)
