Greetings,

I asked about what type of boat would good for a beginner a while back and was advised to go on a test sail at a sailing academy or on a friends boat. Well, I took my wife on a 24' boat at Lanier Sailing Academy here in Pensacola, to see how she liked sailing. I was at the tiller and she worked the jib sheets. It was the first time for both of us to be on sail boat. We spent most of the three hours becalmed. To make a not so long story short, the wife said that was about enough fooling about with wind powered boats for her. Too bad, because I actually had fun.

Best regards,
SoulWinner

Re: Test Sail

My wife and I spent about 3 great years with a Catalina 22 sloop, sailing Mobile Bay. We found that she was happy when the boat was sailing, but not heeling. So the best times for her were with winds between 5 and 10 knots. When she was with me, I made it a priority to give her the best time that I could- and to come in sooner that I would have if I had been alone. I saved the excitement for when I was singlehanding.
If it's not too late, take your wife sailing once again in a light breeze, and don't overdo it.
Good luck!
