I just called around looking for a test prop(so you dont spin the motor with no load) and 3 differnt marine shops told me they didnt sell one and would not recommend using one since it would not put the motor under the same load. Well, I think the problem with mine is that something is shorting above 3k. So, I just wanted to be able to reach that rpm w/o having to drag it to the lake everytime. I have already made the trip 5 times thinking the problem may be fixed only to find its not. I have a fairly big water tank that allows me to run it at idle up to mabey 1k but after that it pushes to much water. Any thoughts on using a test prop?? Thanks in advance!! Love the forum.

Re: Test props

We had an Evinrude dealership about 40 years ago, and always used test props to rev the engines up while in the tank.

I bought one (25-40 hp) last year on Ebay for $15. See them there about once a month.

Don't know what is available for newer (non shear pin) engines. Perhaps they don't make them for thru-hub exhaust props.

Re: Test props

Testpropellers are still made and used for all models.
