Hello All,
I have a 1988 Johnson 50 hp and would like to know how to check the temp sensor and see if the warning horn works. I have moved the rubber sleeve that covers the wire splice, attached a "jumper wire", and then tried to ground out the sensor but nothing happened (no warning horn). I was hoping that someone here could tell me what I am doing wrong, or does this mean that the sensor is bad?

Re: test heat sensor

turn your ignition key in running position
then try again.
If not may be the horn is broken

Re: test heat sensor

you have to ground out the wire not the sensor.
the sensor normaly grounds the horn. If the sensor works of course.
what you are testing is if the horn works, not if the sensor works.

reeldutch

Thanks Reeldutch,
I tried it with the key on and still nothing so I guess the horn might be bad. Now all I have to do is find the horn!
