I am looking at this boat to buy for my first bass boat. The motor seems to be in good working order, But it has an electric shifter on it. Is this something that I should be concerned about? Do they go bad and if so are they expensive to replace?
The boat is ownened by a lady who's husband passed and she knows nothing about it.

Anything can go bad. Boat parts and labor are expensive. The delay between the time you take it in and get it back can seem like forever.

Now that being said. There are many of those types of motors still running around and giving good service year in and year out, but maybe you should take into consideration that the electric shift outboards are going on more than a few years old, and as seen here many times it can sometimes be overwhelming finding a shop that will even want to work on the older stuff at all, and only want to sell new motors.

Ask if you can take it for a run. If all is well and you feel comforatable with the price and the deal as a whole, go for it.
