I have a '94 Johnson 150 on a 28' pontoon. The last trip out I had 7 other people on board and I normally run at about 3000rpm and this time out it used alot of fuel. I'm not sure if it was a strong headwind or what. The motor runs great. No missing, excessive smoking, sputtering, etc. How many GPH should I expect to burn with this rig at 3000 rpm with 7 or 8 souls on board?

Thanks guys,
Danny K.

What is your wide open throttle rpm? My 1995 175 oceanpro burns appx 7-8 gph cruisin' on plane at 3600 rpm. WOT is about 5400 rpm on a 3500lb loaded 22ft. Trophy.

WOT rpm is about 5500. Considering the weight of boat, motor and passengers I'm guessing around 4000lbs for boat and motor and another 1500 for passengers, ice chest, etc. or a total weight of about 5500 lbs. I used 10 gallons on about a 40 minute run at 3000 rpm.

What 'cha think, angus??

Thanks,
Danny K.

Theoretically, you should burn about 15gal/hr at WOT. You are at 55% throttle and burning appx 13gal/hr. Alot depends on load, setup, hulltype,etc....
I'm not familiar with pontoon hulls, but you are burning nearly twice what I burn at similar RPM. You are 6' longer and appx 1500 lbs heavier.
I guess if 7 or 8 people each chip in $20, problem solved!!!!!!
Might want to check for leaks and verify set up height is optimized.
Indeed your motor seems more thirsty than expected.
Good luck

I forgot to mention this pontoon has a 8'X10' aluminum top, and at 3000rpm this top creates a alot of drag. Due to the angle of the motor and transom I don't have much room for trim. I have to run trim practically all the way down, probably 90% down.

I guess your right. $20 per soul would cover it!!

Thanks,
Danny K.
