Our family took the Tennessee River Cruise in the downriver section we enjoy the most. Being Labor Day weekend we had expected a good bit of river traffic and choose to cruise below Chickamauga in order to avoid the marina traffic areas.
What we did not expect was a wonderfully cool fall day, with good temps, water was warm and river traffic was almost non-existent.
We always put in mile marker 469 at the River Park ramp, always easy access, no waiting and the best value for the money (free). We always enjoy the slow cruise past the old Quaker Oats plant and down into Chattanooga?s river front. We went by the west side of Maclellan Island to check out the dock traffic and came up on the Rubber Duck tours.
As always we went past, through the Moccasin Bend turn and took the west route past Williams Island. To this point we had only came across the occasional fisherman and a lone cruiser tied by the bank.
From 454 all the way down to 425 we came across light traffic at the very best. Other than a little wind causing some strong chop, it was perfect water and weather.
The trip back was as perfect as the trip out. We took our son to the rail bridge by the locks into Chickamauga to see if he could see a train come by.
This is our favorite part of the river to cruise along on, the scenery is awesome and the river traffic is usually next to nothing.
I hope you enjoy some of the pics.
