morning all.:D well i have 2 questions.using an infrared temp gun ,what temp range could i expect to see on my 1980 70hp johnson while on the hose with muffs after 10 min idle? what i am seeing is 107-110 degrees. ques #2 what is the proper way to fill a tilt and trim unit? i think the motor is up with lock in place and the rams retracted fully:confused:


and also to bktheking my stator was the problem,charging like a champ. thank you so much for the advise and guidance thruogh all the testing procedures:D

In response to question 1,
Your thermostat should open at around 140 degrees. Is there a thermostat in place ?? and if so have you tested it ??

Tilt motor all the way up and lock it there, open , fill, close. Unlock, lower motor all the way down. Now back up, lock, fill, close, lower. Repeat, repeat, repeat..

Use Dextrin II auto trans fluid, or power steering fluid.

water hose water is probably cooler, not that unusual.
