Does anyone know which sensor and gauge I will need for this motor? I beleive that it would hook up to the capped fitting at the top of the water jacket, looks to be a 3/8" fitting. TIA.

You need a gauge and temp sensor for an outboard. There are two types of sensors like shown below. Either can be used as a contact type (cylinder head temp) or the threaded type can be screwed into the water jacket if there is an unused port available. Order the sender when you order the gauge.

Depends on the manufacturer of the gauge but most generic gauges are made by Teleflex/Faria. The threaded sender is most commonly used but the other type is also available. Make sure you don't end up with a sender for an I/O. They are different.

One more thing to add. Make sure you order the sender unit with the proper thread for your motor. The sending units come in a variety of pipe threads (1/8, 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2").

Chris, those inlines do not have thermostats. The motor will read dead cold at idle, warmer at cruise. w/o a specific pattern. I recommend you install a water pressure gauge instead. It will give much more consistant results.

Hey Chris, that is a very good point. I wondered that very same thing. So would this water pressure gauge be installed in the same location?

Water pressure is lowest on the top part of the cylinderhead waterjacket. Either install the pressure gauge fitting in a tee fashion with the telltale, or use the mid cylinder head plug, that many inlines have.
