When I run my 76 stringer 800 with a 351 ford at WOT my temp goes from 160 to about 190 and when i back off to idle the temp will go to 200-210. Is this still to high? I just replaced the starboard exhause complete and will do port in june.

Thanks.

Re: Temp question

when is the last time you changed impeller? sounds like your not getting enough water flow.

Re: Temp question

there is less than 30 hours at low speed (trolling) on the water pump rebuild, engine water pump only has about 8 hours on it. Hoses are pumping about 3 times the min. requirment. Guess it could be the port exhaust??

Re: Temp question

Temp will spike when you come off plane. How high it spikes will always concur with how you come off plane. If you go from 3/4 throttle right down to idle ,it probably will spike to 200.If you pull back a little and then a little more and then easy off plane and then to idle it will surely spike less. You can never go wrong by checking the entire exhaust system.190 is high for rwc cruising speed.Charlie

Re: Temp question

Thanks cc, I just replace one side that had burnt throught the exhause hose and the other side will have a to wait a couple of weeks, those are not free ;) I have been working on this for over a year and this was the first time i have gotten it up on plan, but I do a lot of trolling on a medium sized lake so it will get me by for a bit :)
