I've got an old silverton sedan-bridge with 2 chrysler 318ci 235HP inboards. The temp guages have not worked in as long as the previous owner can remember. He "thinks" he changed the sending units once, to no avail, but is not sure.

How can I test the wiring & guage? I read something about grounding it out once, is there anything to that? I read it should peg the gauge, but not how to ground it. What's the best way to find the source of the problem?

Thanks in advance :)

A way to ground this wire and test the guage would be greatly appreciated, I'm having no luck finding out how...

thanks.

This hold true for every temp gauge I have encountered, maybe some that are differnt, but I've never seen em:
1.Turn on ignition
2.Remove wire from sending unit
3.Touch wire to handy spot nearby on engine block
4.Scratch it around to get through the paint and rust.(or just run a ground wire jumper-easier)
5.Observe temp gauge-it shold shoot all the way over to HOT
6. If it doesn't move you have a wiring problem or a gauge problem - if it does you have a bad sending unit.
