temp gauge

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot a temperature gauge? I have a 140 hp Mercruiser I/O. I bought the boat about a month ago, and the seller said that he recently had a new temperature sensor installed, which, by the looks of it, appears to be true. I've looked at the obvious things...wires all connected and apparently intact, and I don't think the gauge is stuck. Since I've owned it, I haven't gotten the temp gauge to read ANYTHING. <br /><br />Any ideas?<br /><br />thanks<br />BRIAN

I had similar problem but with an outboard and as it turned out I had a loose ground, not directly off the gauge but further down the circuit. Check your wires again and follow the course all the way from the batteries to the gauge, if nothing else youll become familiar with your setup and down the road youll be able to pick up on other problems. Also should be considered is a bad sensor. Sorry but I cant help you in determing if its good or bad,,,Mark
