Hello, i have a 1985, 2 cyl, 60 hp johnson, i just rebuilt the motor and want to put in some gauges. Where or what do i connect the wire from the gauge to the motor. Is it the tan open connection by the temp sensor? I'm not sure.

When you purchase the temperature guage you need to make sure it comes as a kit with the sending unit and it will have the instructions for installing the different types.

I appreciate the scematic, it's awsome! At this point i am just wondering which sender would be compatible with my teleflex sahara gauges and the and my 1985 johnson, 2 cyl, and where on the motor would be a normal or suitable install...in the water jacket? top of head? side of motor? i don't know

You can call just about any supplier of Teleflex gauges and they should be able to give you the part number of the sending unit that you need, you can even contact Teleflex direct.

Re: temp gauge-which wire

for some reason, affixing a temperature SENDER seems to be black magic..

if you already have a guage. it is almost impossible trying to figure which sender will work at the right ohms for that guage...

and there is no wire from the engine to the control box that is standard for temperature guages..

the wiring harness only has provisions for the temperature sensor( which works with the alarm system)

I went through that...it was a lot of work trying to buy the senders for my OMC guages.. I ran the wires myself ( and MY motor has a specific spot for the temperature SENDER!!!)

most engines dont!!!!

good luck

best bet is to buy it as a package from Tempo or other guage maker.

just make sure your SENDER will attach to your engine satifactorily

The Teleflex link has the diagrams showing the possible methods of mounting the sender.

Some cylinder heads have the pre-drilled threaded hole for the sender, but those that don't should use the Z shaped bracket held by a head bolt as shown. http://www.downloadingfiles.co.uk/teleflexfiles/gauges/Outboards.pdf

The temperature gauge kits have the extra wire and sender plus the Z bracket, but the part numbers for those who need them are listed in the text at the link above.

iboats sells the Teleflex Sahara line of gauges: http://www.iboats.com/Teleflex-Saha...89433184--**********.417500214--view_id.40266

You might want to contact Teleflex technical support if you need more specific information:

Faria also has a version of a Z bracket/sending unit assembly, I will grab the part number and the supplier and post it later for those that are using Faria line instruments.
