tell tale won't flow on flushing, fine when running

I'm a new member, so thanks for having me - it looks like there are plenty of knowledgeable people here. OK, here's my question:

I have a 2003 2 stroke 90 ELPTO. Just changed the impeller (I have done this several times before) and something is different - now when I flush the engine using the factory flushing device attached to the engine, there is no flow from the
tell tale. I tried it with earmuff flushing and the tell tale flows fine. Also it works fine in normal use, and the engine stays cool (used it today).

When flushing with the factory setup, there is much more flow than there was (before this impeller and gasket change) from the weep hole in the housing in front of the prop, and from the area in front of the 2 zinc tabs on the housing. I don't think I had flow from these areas at all before...

What have I changed?? Gaskets were the same, and placed in the same order. Impeller vanes are oriented for the correct rotation. Is the water outlet on the impeller housing maybe not making good seal when I close it up with the upper unit? I'm going to yank it apart again tomorrow and recheck but any suggestions will be welcome.

Geez I guess I have been missing something. I have a 2002 90 2 cycle ELPTO and never heard of a flushing port or anything of the like. Where is it?

All fixed now. But I still don't know what was wrong. It worked fine in the water but still failed to flush like it always had... so I took it all completely apart and reassembled it. Even removed and reinstalled the new thermostat. And now it works just like it did before I started. Glad for that, but I still don't understand what happened. Gremlins, I guess.

I think this was new on the 2003 engines. There is a piece of tubing, maybe 3/8 diameter, coming out from the front of the engine under the cowling. It has a quick connect fitting on it allowing it to be hooked up to a water hose to flush with. Makes it very easy to flush the engine.

You aren't supposed to flush that line while the engine is running. Its just for flushing after you run in salt water after the engine is shut off. It does not supply water to the impeller and you will smoke your new impeller if you continue to do that.

Wired -

Thanks for telling me that. It makes good sense now that I think about it. You may have saved me an impeller - and some more work.
