Tell Tale Question

Hello All,

I have a 1985 115 merc. The motor is in great shape and starts like a champ nearly every time on the first try. When the boat is in neutral the tell tale is very strong. When I put the motor in gear the tell tale output is not good, (sort of sprays/sputters) until I give the motor some gas. As soon as I give the motor just a little gas it is right back to the same strong spray that it has when it is in neutral. I have checked the line for obstructions. Is this something I need to have checked or is this normal?

A impeller with a set in it will act that way

Is this then something that I need to have looked at or fixed, or is this just the way it is? What is the "set" and what does it do? Thanks for your help in answering this. I really appreciate the help.

If it's not been changed in the last 2 or 3 years I would replace it when it's next out of the water
