Most neutral safety switches are located in the remote control and activated by a lobe on that control. They generally have nothing to do with spark but simply open the circuit to the crank terminal of the keyswitch so you wont be able to crank in gear.If you are refering to the lanyard kill switch, thats a different story. That one will deny voltage to the ignition and give you no spark but allow you to crank all day if you feel like it.

i WAS NOT refering to the lanyard, as mine doesn't have it. i just wanted to know if they little bugger would crank while in gear (and not spark) or it would even deny cranking.

i've got crank but no ignition, so i'm going to have to chace down the voltage i'm missing somewhere. i was just curious if there was a netural switch malfunctioning.

this may be universal, but for the sake of details, what is the year, manufacturer & hp of your engine?

It's all really pretty easy. If you have 12 volts to the positive terminal of the coil, then the rest of the ignition process should take care of itself. If not you have a failed component in that ignition proccess.Points, condensor, timeing, dwell, plugs and wires, cap and rotor.
