Teleflex controller feedback please

I had two Teleflex SL-3 sidemount controllers fail. In both cases the throttle only button stuck and we were unable to shift gears. The last one failed on the second use and my son spent the night on the lake!

Is this a known problem with the Teleflex throttle only button design?

Is the newer CHX8000 series any better?

Any feedback for purchasing a reliable controller for a stern drive would be appreciated.

Not up to the current whiz bang offerings but I bought a replacement for the Commander 3000 with the black button and all which was/resembled the Commander 2000 with the electrical wiring harness and 8 pin connector to fit my engine for about $250 right here. The throttle and shift cables swap.

The 2000 is also single lever, bulkhead mounted, not in bulkhead and there is no button to fool with. Fast Idle is a lever at the rear that you just lift, use and push back down, shift into gear and be on your way....bullet proof. The fuel enhancement for starting is key push like the 3000.

If you have to have your cables and most of the control hidden then I can't help you but I'd expect to have some sort of similar mechanism to get the fast idle function as your current failures.

Thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned this is an inboard/outboard currently using 33C cables (Volvo Penta 3.0 L).

Talk about frustrating! Same exact problem on 2 controllers left us stranded twice!

Based on other threads, we are not the only one to experience a stuck throttle only button on the Teleflex SL-3. When that happens, you can't shift into gear.

There must be an improved controller out there.

Advice and opinions please.

Suggestions for a better controller to use with 33C cabels?
