I have a 26' Seaswirl boat with bunk trailer. The trailer has a teflon cover material attached to the bunks (no carpet). Slicker than s*@%!, work great.

Carolina Skiff said that I could use plastic (poly or teflon) coverings on bunks for their boats.

Most bunk boat trailers I saw at a local boat show had poly coated bunks. Both for large fiberglas boats and smaller aluminum boats.

I've found that poly coated bunks are always slick and consistant, where roller only work when they are lubed, and not been sitting for awhile.

You can also probably use a smaller power winch with poly bunks, because of the slickness (helps loading too), but be sure you leave your strap attached while backing down the ramp, or your boat may end up coming off your trailer before you want it to.

Sometimes friction is good. On larger and/or heavier boats, if you grease up the bunks the chance for the boat pulling out your bow-eye and losing the rig on a steep ramp increases. I've seen it happen. In additon, it becomes less stabile on the road, meaning if you have to stop fast, well you know where this going.

i looked at some of the teflon glide sticks, west marine had them. the box said the sticks might mark up a fiberglass hull. i sent 'em back.

I use silicone spray on my bunks with great results. (13 and 16 foot Whalers)

Respray two or three times a year as needed. I boat in Florida so use both often. :)

I had a float on trailer with teflon pads. It slid well but wasn't perfect if the boat didn't float all the way up to the front. The downside was I had to juice the power up to break the pad friction, once free the boat would lurch forward and keep going. I traded a roller trailer in to get the float on...big mistake.
