I have heard and read quite a bit regarding G. Loomis and St. Croix rods. I have also done some research on the Fenwick Techna AV rods. I am trying to decide on either the Fenwick AVS 66 MF or the St. Croix Legend Elite ES 66 MF. I like the Titanium SS 304 Guide System on the Fenwick but like Fuji Reel Seat better on the Legend Elite. I have not, as of yet made a selection in the G. Loomis line. I was looking for some input from all of you regarding these rods.

Hello John. While the fenwick, loomis and st,croix rods are all really fine rods. Take a look at the quarrow ML4 rods (dream catcher). I love mine, the quarrow's are all I use anymore, my loomis and fenwick's now collect more dust than fish.

www.quarrow.com

It really depends on what you want to do with it, Johnnie.

I use a GLoomis for muskies and big snakes, Fenwicks for Walleyes and bass, and an ABU flyrod for panfish.

Truly, I think the model makes more difference than the make.

Good luck. :)

Personally I think it is silly to spend $100 on a rod. But, just from the ones that I have used (my fishing partner's) I would have to say that you cant go wrong with G.Loomis or St.Croix, both have the best warantee, break it, take it back to dealer, get new one no questions, or atleast that how the dealer here is with both brands.

Yeah, let the cat outta the bag. I'll take 2 :D

The Legend Elite St. Croix I want goes for $295.

I can get the blank for $134, and if I use a standard handle, Fuji seat, and some non titanium guides, I can put it together for $180. Maybe I'll do this after I make a couple more rods. (I've only made 2 so far, one with a StCroix scII blank, and one with a GLoomis GL3 blank)My next rod will be glass, but don't know what blank to use. :(

If you think $100 is too much, don't even look at big game saltwater equipment. They go for thousands.

I was trying to say that I think it is silly to pay $100 or MORE for a rod, but left out the more.

It does not, and I dont care what anyone says, take a $295 rod to catch musky, pike , or any of those other toothy fish. People where catching those long before the days of 295 rods. Im sorry you where dooped JB.

I knew what you meant, Nathan. I tried to make a joke.

What you say is true, of course. I caught my first musky on a Zebco 808 combo.

On the other hand, my first car was a Hillman Minx.. .not quite as good a car as a used Yugo. I get a LOT more pleasure out of my ML320, and a LOT more pleasure out of my GLoomis rod with the Amabassaduer Morrum. I don't get anywhere any easier but I do catch more and bigger muskys. :D

Yep St.Croix man here..Now don't pay three hundred bucks for a rod. Would be afraid of it getting wet.
Those of us who fish the bigger fins need a rod that can take a beatn when when hauling in a 30 lb. plus fin.
It only takes one time for a pole to break when having a trophy on. You can get way with a lesser rod when fishn for the smaller fins.

Bet that ole Zebco took a beating when you hauled in that gator JB. My Grandfather use to cane pole for the bigger gators in the ole days. Always wondered how big a tree limb he used. In those days he use to throw the cane out and trolled with the oars. Always believed that motors only fouled up the water..How true he was..
