We sail on Lake Superior and just bought a new Evinrude 8hp 4stroke, 2001. Anyone have feedback regarding this motor, good or bad. This is our first Evinrude and reliability and performance are a must on this large lake...
Thanks in advance

Ahoy, Tanzer.

I believe that your engine is a rebadged Suzuki, so you can expect smooth, quiet, reliable operation.

As with any 4 stroke outboard, routine and preventive maintenance are essential. Get a Service Manual and be sure all checks and inspections are done on schedule, and that it is never stored incorrectly.

Bon Voyage. :)

Thanks JB
When you say re-badged, will it have the same specs as a Suzuki, replacement parts, etc. Also do you know why Evinrude stopped making this engine.
Dave

Re: Tanzer 26 outboard

The engine was made by Suzuki. It should be identical to the Suzuki DF8 of 2001.

When OMC went bankrupt in 2001 they, of course, stopped buying them from Suzuki.

After Bombardier bought the Johnson and Evinrude brands they resumed buying engines from Suzuki, but now label them as Johnson.

I do not know if the current Johnson 8hp 4 stroke is still a Suzuki made engine.

The current Johnson 70 4 stroke is identical to my 2001 Suzuki DF70 4 stroke, but has its own Bombardier part numbers.
