When you use a tank to run a motor instead of muffs, do you replace the propeller with something?

shops use a a test wheel, but unless you have a fairly large tank, i dont think even that is an option. not a good idea to remove the prop as its very easy to over rev and damage the motor. backyard tank running is usually limited to not much more than a fast idle in gear unless you are running a small motor, and even then the motor can bail out your barrel faster than a hose can refill it at wot.

The driveway would have been more convenient. Sort of figured there were problems associated with this procedure. Guess I'll just head for the lake! Thanks

You shouldn't test an engine at wot on a tank, besides emptying the tank the engine will over rev. If you want to test an engine will have to be at load. Usually all engines works fine at idle on a tank, at load and pushing a boat it's a different story.

Thanks, I will find out this coming weekend when I put the boat in the water. The lake will make a great tank!!
