Where is the best place to position a jack on a tandem trailer to be able to remove both tires from a side? And where to place it, if different, to remove just one tire at a time? It seems like I need to lift it in two stages (jack, block, shim up jack, jack again) to get it high enough when positioned under one axel.

I use either the equalizing yoke in the center for both wheels or under the spring mounting bracket for single axle jacking. The little $69 red jacks will just fit between the tires and is just long enough to work. If too short for your application you can slide a 2x6 board under it.

Jack up one axle...put your jack stand under it...jack up other axle...use second jack stand.
