Hello,
I know this is fairly controversial and debated many times over but I can not find recent post about this subject so I thought I would throw it out again. I picked up my new Ranger Reatta 1850MS and after I got it home last week i decided I wanted a Talon however as most would guess I do not want to add a jack plate. I am fairly confident from looking at my transom inside and out I would be able to mount one directly to the fiberglass transom. There is what appears to be a structural support plate with a gusset in the location where I would plan to install one Talon. I am not sure what Ranger uses for support in the transom but the plate and Gusset are not ferrous and perhaps aluminum as they bolted 2 sections together. The transom itself is fairly straight all the way up to the fishing deck and the support plate goes all the way except the last 1" to the fishing deck. I also have read where tilt brackets are not recommended for direct transom mounted Talons but I see videos of boat shops doing this. What is the pitfall of using this on the transom mount?
Million Dollar question.... Should I? Can I?
