I have a 97 Seadoo GTI. The start button has a tiny slit or tear around the bottom round part of the start button. Anyway, I got up at 6am to get a glass of water, then went back to bed to wait for the alarm to go off at 6:15. Alarm goes off, and the wife and I get up and as soon as we left the bedroom, she askes "what's that sound?" I told her it wasn't there 15 min ago. I open the front door, and there's the ski idling....

We had a lot of rain last night. All I can think of is a little water seeped into the start button? I doubt water would do that, but how weird is a ski to just start up on her own? We have not had it out for a good month or so. I unplugged the lanyard, and will now be keeping it unplugged! Not bad fireing up with no choke!! I can just imagine - what if that thing decided to fired up around midnight, idle til 3 am, then decide to seize with no cooling and have a impeller destroyed... and never know about it til a few weeks later when I decide to drop her in the lake!! And still scratch my head like "WTF? it was fine last time I had her out!!!"

I live out in the country, so no one messed with it, besides with the rain, you would see footprints. Maybe I should name her Christine.

That is weird...I liker her new name- great movie. She sounds like an independant type of jetski.

Would have had to have been a short in the start button. You shouldn't leave the lanyard in or the ignition/fuel selector in the on-position anyway. It would be difficult to start with no choke, but if it sat there cranking for 30-45 seconds straight it would likely fire up as the cylinder temps rose due to the pistons moving. It would be rough on your starter and the battery though.
